Westby Racing Reveals 2019 Team Livery Ahead Of MotoAmerica Season Debut This Weekend At Road Atlanta

Tulsa, OK – April 3, 2019 – Westby Racing today unveiled its Yamaha YZF-R1 Superbike and YZF-R3 Junior Cup machine in 2019 team livery. The Tulsa, Oklahoma-based squad has retained its signature gold color scheme, while complementing the iconic hue with a fresh, new design for the upcoming 10-round MotoAmerica season.

2018 MotoAmerica Superbike Rookie of the Year Mathew Scholtz will again race the #11 Westby Racing Yamaha R1 Superbike, and new team member “Samurai Sam” Lochoff will compete in the MotoAmerica Junior Cup Championship aboard the #57 Westby Racing Yamaha R3.

Both riders, along with team owner Tryg Westby and the entire Westby Racing team are ready to do battle this weekend at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia, as the 2019 AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Championship gets underway with round one beginning on Friday.

Last year at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, Mathew and the team got their 2018 Superbike campaign off to a great start when they bested the full-factory teams and won the first Superpole of the season. Proving that Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta’s 12-turn, 2.54-mile, undulating, natural road course is a favorite for the South African who now lives in the Atlanta area, Mathew went on to finish second and third in last year’s two Superbike races. He’s hoping to equal or improve on those results this weekend.

Mathew commented, “It’s great to be able to start the season at Road Atlanta because it’s a track that I really enjoy, and it’s not far from where I live in the U.S. We had a really productive off-season with testing, and we were able to make quite a bit of progress dialing in the Magneti-Marelli electronics system, which is a new feature on our bike for 2019. I’m really looking forward to seeing how we compare to the factory bikes this year. Many thanks to Tryg and the team for taking a big step forward this year with the bike. I am very fortunate to be able to race for the Westby team. Last year was a good one for us, and I’m ready to make this 2019 season an even better one.”

Superbike Superpole (Qualifying) is on Saturday at 11:15 AM Eastern, Superbike Race 1 will go green on Saturday at 3:00 PM Eastern, and Superbike Race 2 is on Sunday at 3:00 PM Eastern.

Mathew’s 16-year-old teammate and South African countryman Sam is brand-new to the MotoAmerica Championship and will be competing at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta for the first time in his young career. Sam tested with his new team a couple of times during the off-season, and he’s been working with a trainer to improve his fitness for the season ahead.

“I’m extremely excited to compete in my first race in America,” Sam said. “Our tests at Barber Motorsports Park and VIRginia International Raceway went extremely well, and I was on pace on a stock bike. I’ve been training with Johnny Lewis at MotoAnatomy for a couple months leading up to this race, so I am well-prepared for this season. I think we can do a great job running at the front of the pack and contesting the Junior Cup Championship in each race.”

Junior Cup Final Qualifying is on Saturday at 8:40 AM Eastern, Junior Cup Race 1 starts on Saturday at 1:10 PM Eastern, and Superbike Race 2 is on Sunday at 1:10 PM Eastern.
