Scholtz Takes More Than A Little Off The Top At Barber With A Victory In MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 Combined With A Podium Finish In Superbike

Birmingham, AL - September 16, 2017 –

Hot on the heels of clinching the 2017 MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 Championship last weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park, Mathew Scholtz and his Yamalube/Westby Racing team traveled south this weekend for the final round of the MotoAmerica season at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama.

In Saturday’s Superbike/Superstock 1000 Race 1, Mathew not only won his ninth race of the season aboard his #11 Yamalube/Westby Racing YZF-R1 Superstock 1000 bike, but he also finished on the Superbike podium with a third-place overall result. It was a rare double-podium result in a single race, and the feat was a first for Mathew.

“It definitely helps to not have to think about the (Superstock 1000) Championship anymore and just focus on riding my own pace,” Mathew commented. “I was able to hang onto the Superbike guys for about 10 laps today, but maybe I can improve my consistency some towards the end of the race. Bobby (Fong) showed earlier this season that it’s possible to get on the podium with the Superbike guys, and I’m just really happy to be up here.”

Mathew and the Yamalube/Westby Racing team has one final race left in the 2017 season, and it will go green tomorrow at 3:15 PM Central.
